Self Sabotage
You have probably heard of people getting in their own way. That is more common than you might think. There are a lot of reasons why we sometimes limit our success or even sabotage the goals we are working to achieve. In time people often realize they are doing this, but they may not understand why or how, just that they keep recreating the same results time and time again, even in failed relationships. At other times people aren't aware they are actually undermining their own efforts. Once we find out why they are doing this it is usually pretty simple to correct and the results can be very dramatic and positive.

Relationships
One of the most common reasons people come to see me is they are having problems in their relationships. Sometimes it is with a spouse or significant other, sometimes the children and sometimes with everyone. Often they have been to some form of marriage or family counseling and it made little or no difference for them. No wonder when you see the failure rate for traditional relationship counseling. It is terrible, that is why I don't do it. I work with rapport and communications as an educator. I also help people work out their roles and needs in relationships as a facilitator. Much of my work is based on the ground breaking discoveries of the late Dr. John Kappas, the world famous hypnotist. It isn't just men are from Mars and women from Venus, not all men or women have the same communications styles or priorities. If the words we use have different meanings to each other then how can we communicate? I work as a coach and just like a coach brings a team together you will find that oddly enough a third person can help bring two people together.

Anxiety
Anxiety is a feeling we have when something is in conflict in our lives. It may have an obvious cause or it may not be so obvious. When we eliminate the conflict we eliminate the anxiety. I never recommend that people stop any medication without the aid and approval of their physician, that is dangerous and could be fatal, but it is true that thousands of people have found relief from anxious feelings without medication by working on the cause instead of treating the symptoms. Often these issues must be worked out with the aid of your physician or care professional and I am glad to use a team approach in these instances. In this short introductory session I will cover the basics of anxiety and touch on how we can deal with anxiety.

Chronic Pain
Pain isn't pain until it is said so by the brain. That is a catchy little saying they teach in pain management classes. Actually it goes further than that, pain isn't pain until the brain is agreed with by the mind. Recent studies are proving what some of us have known for some time. You can actually block pain, distort pain and even convert pain using the power of the mind. Also sometimes things are out of balance and as a result we perceive pain. When being out of balance creates pain guess what putting things back into balance does? Right! It sets things right.

Anger
There are two things to start with that most people miss when it comes to anger.
1. The person that is angry at some level is trying to accomplish something significant with the anger.
2. The person that is angry is usually hurting too. It is not just the person they are directing the anger at.
I find out what people are trying to accomplish with anger and then work with them to give them better strategies and options. I also work on the inner hurt that often creates a vicious cycle of hurt-anger-attack-more hurt. It isn't about self control, it is about options. Find out more with the short introductory session on anger.

Grief
Grief can be about losing a loved one. There can also be a similar response to losing a job, losing a marriage to divorce, losing an arm, leg or any other significant loss. Even losing a pet can trigger a grief response. Grief is normal when it is within normal bounds. If grief lasts too long or goes too deep then there are actions that can be taken to bring the grief back into normal bounds and help it resolve. I lost my first wife much too young. I couldn't imagine what anyone could do to help me. Now I know and I wish I had sought help sooner. I understand grief and I will respect your loss.

Forgiveness
When we think of forgiveness we often think about forgiving others and about issues that relate to others. I find that forgiveness is actually a lot about ourselves. When we hold a grudge against someone else that actually hurts us. It causes stress and often internal conflicts. I remember hearing a man tell how that when he was a child his father beat him with a hammer. Long after the physical wounds healed the man still suffered from the memory. One day after his father had died he was thinking of the beating and while trying to drink himself numb to the memory he realized that now he was the one beating himself with the hammer by holding on to that memory. Forgiveness for his father didn't mean that he deserved a beating or that what the father had done was excusable. It meant he wouldn't beat himself with a memory anymore. There are times that we have issues that makes forgiving ourselves difficult. Sometimes we need help with that too. That is what I do.

Success
Is there a secret to success? I think so and I think I can prove it. I am not alone, there are many people that say they found a secret to success and they made their fortune, built the company, their family, their relationships or their grand accomplishment based on the teachings and principles of a book. Books like the Holy Bible, Think and Grow Rich, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and many more. I believe we live in a cause and effect world. If something happens, then something caused it. If there is food in your refrigerator someone put it there, it didn't just materialize. If you have tomatoes in your garden then someone planted tomatoes, not corn. We reap what we sow. You do something and that is the cause and then you reap something which is the effect. I help people sow the seeds of success and you guessed it, they reap success.

Guilt
Guilt can originate from something we have done, haven't done or someone else did to us. People can put you on a "Guilt Trip" and you can feel guilty even if you haven't done anything wrong. Even when we have done something we shouldn't have done and guilt is appropriate, guilt should never be permanent. Guilt can actually prevent you from making things right by freezing you. I help people understand that they can't feel guilty enough to set things right. I help them see that the best they can do is the best they can do and no one should feel guilty for doing their best. When a person can make things right I help them do that. If they can't work it out with the person they hurt I help them see there are other options and they do the work and I do the support. Sometimes I help people see that they feel guilty over someone else's actions and that can be a very good thing to understand.

Confidence
Confidence is based in belief. It is a feeling based in our own beliefs about us. If you believe you can do a certain task then you have confidence and feel confident in respect to that certain task. Often people lack confidence even when they are very talented and skilled. That can really limit a person and hold them back. While it is important to get the education, experience and skills to succeed, get the confidence too. Confidence is something we project or the lack of it. It often makes the difference in getting a job, a promotion, a date and even a spouse. There are actually ways you can build your confidence and I can coach you with these methods and techniques. Think of confidence as the package you wrap your personality and skills in to show the world. Is it important? Companies spend millions of dollars working on the package or box their product comes in, they think so!

Self Esteem
Whenever I think about self esteem I think of a mentor of mine, a trainer that said we either had the words wrong on that one or we were confused on what we meant. Most people confuse self esteem with "other" esteem or esteem based on what other people think of us. Even at that we have a problem, we don't really know what other people really think about us, we have to guess or figure out if what they say about us means the same thing to us as it does to them. Not really worth the effort.
Low self esteem or a lack of healthy self esteem is limiting and often destructive. If you had pneumonia and you knew you had pneumonia you would most likely see a doctor because pneumonia as an illness is destructive. Low self esteem isn't a disease like pneumonia, but it can destroy your life. If you don't value you then all sorts of problems begin to appear. Realize that low self esteem is a judgment and you can change your judgment or self evaluation. If you have a self esteem problem get some coaching. This is an area where a little often goes a long way. It is like we have blind spots where we don't see the true value we have. We can figuratively get out the mirror and I can help you see your value in a safe way. Not one of those fun house mirrors that magnify the faults and hide your virtues, but a real look at the real value of you.

Focus
What does focus mean? Focus means everything. Our experience of life is based on our focus. Many people miss out on so much because they just aren't paying attention and in this overwhelming world you can understand how that happens. Focus means catching the details, what she said and how she looked, the corner of her mouth when she smiled at you. Focus means hearing the meaning, when he said the same thing to you as to the other women, but catching the difference in how he said it this and every time he says it to you. It means being able to finish a project, get that promotion and achieve your goals. It can mean the difference in getting an "A" in class and getting in trouble. It can be the difference in happiness and divorce. Paying attention to the details, living in the moment, see what others miss.

Phobia
What are phobias? I heard a man say a phobia is a fear that doesn't know when to quit and I think he was on the right track. I have heard someone say that a phobia is a fear that isn't real. Funny, they sure do feel real! I would never tell you that your phobia isn't real. On the other hand, it may need turning down some or even an eviction notice. I figure out how your phobia ticks and I take it apart like an alarm clock so it won't tick or alarm. Sometimes it is better to just turn it down so that when the alarm goes off it isn't so loud it wakes the dead. Often true phobias are of a nature that I may need to work with a care professional to help you. I am all for a team approach and I often work as an adjunct to other professionals.

Overwhelm
Being overwhelmed, I get dizzy thinking about it. The world is going so fast. Then there is stress. Stress and overwhelm go together like popcorn and the movies. Fortunately there are things you can do. You have to believe certain things to feel overwhelmed. It wouldn't be very helpful for you to believe that nothing matters so I don't try for that, I show you some strategies that make the world more manageable and when they start working for you, then you can change your own beliefs! I have got too much to do! No, just joking, I help you all the way as you work this out for you. Contact me before it gets worse! I do this for mothers with young children and executives with young, but expensive mortgages. I am sure we will find a place for you somewhere in between.
