When it comes to thought and behavior we have a brain, after all, we all know we think with the brain and not our ear or elbow, but that isn't all there is to it, we also have a mind. Researchers tell us we actually have several minds or several functions of the brain. These minds are often called by different scientist or researchers different names like the conscious mind, the subconscious mind, the critical mind, the ego and even many more terms. While the researchers can't agree on everything about the mind that they observe and study they do agree what goes on in our minds shapes and even creates our lives through our choices and our actions.
So what is the mind? The mind is a function of the brain, just like sight is a function of the eye or hearing is a function of the ear. You wouldn't expect to examine an eye and see sight or the ear and find hearing, these things are functions of the eye and ear, not actual structures of the eye or ear. The same is true with the mind. The mind is a function of the brain, not a structure, it is part of what the brain does. At the simplest level there is a Manual or Conscious Mind, we call it the Manual Mind because you must think consciously for it to function and then there is the Automatic Mind, often called the Subconscious Mind. We call the Subconscious Mind the Automatic Mind because we don't have to consciously think to make it work or active.
So why is this all important? Estimates vary depending on who is doing the estimate and the process they use to make the estimate, but the Automatic or Subconscious Mind does anywhere from 88% to even over 99% of what your brain and total brain - body interactive system does. It seems that almost everyday we learn something new the brain does and almost all of it is done by the Subconscious, Automatic Mind and it does it with the thinking skills of a four year old and almost totally without your conscious control. When you study this for a while it gets a little scary, but it does explain a lot. You have a lot of your problems because much of your life is controlled by the equivalent of a four year old. Try as hard as you will, you will never really change your life until you change what is in your Subconscious, Automatic Mind. That is what I help people do.
By using simple tools we can do in hours and days or just several sessions what it would take you years and decades to do on your own. You can physically repeat a lesson or a practice twice in an hour or I can show you how in many ways mentally you can have the effect of doing it a hundred times in ten minutes. You can fight hunger and cravings until they wear you down and you quit your diet or you can make them go away automatically. You can struggle to change your actions and results or you can make the change automatic. You can just set it and forget it. It isn't magic and it isn't superstition, it is how we are made and how we operate. Weight Loss, Smoking Cessation, Sports Excellence, Success, Pain Management and even Relationships are all subject to the Automatic Mind and many, many more things too numerous to mention here. Change what that mind chooses as actions and you will change the results you get.
This is a cause and effect world. We get what we get in this world because we do what we do, we cause things to happen by our actions and inaction. We do what we do because of our thoughts, beliefs and programs, programs like the things we call our habits. Change those things and you change your life and the change starts today. Often you see amazing results quickly and why not? When you change what is bringing you your results in life you will change your results.
It is a law as sure as gravity. Change what you are doing and you will change your results. Suppose you had planted corn all of your life, no matter how greatly you desired tomatoes, you would still keep getting corn when you plant seeds of corn. You reap what you sow. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Get out of that trap and try something different.
Change your seeds and you change your harvest. You can change the actions you sow and the crop you reap by working with and through the Automatic Mind.
Here is a very profound thought, if you sowed the seeds of success you couldn't reap failure, you didn't sow those seeds.
